Michelle is currently all but dissertation (ABD) Ph.D. candidacy in music education and vocology at the University of Utah.
Michelle received a Bachelor’s of Music Education in choral and vocal music from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana.
She has a Master's of Sacred Music in vocal performance and conducting from the University of Notre Dame and a Master's of Vocal Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ), where she also graduated with distinction.
Michelle began singing professionally with the Sacramento Opera Company. She continues to sing opera, musical theatre, jazz, and big-band music.
Michelle served as a worship leader in Thailand, China, India, and France. She has conducted her compositions and has sung in multiple choirs, including the Paris Choral Society choir.
Michelle taught music education for five years at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana, after which she accepted an adjunct vocal teaching position at The University of Notre Dame. The University hired Michelle to teach voice in the music department and coach singers in the Notre Dame Folk Choir under the direction of Steven Warner. Michelle also sang solo with various choirs at the University of Notre Dame under the direction of Carmen Helena Téllez, Dr. Nancy Menk, and student directors.
In 2012, Michelle released a solo jazz E.P. called “Blue."
Michelle conducted the Monday Musical choir of St. Joseph, Michigan for two spring seasons.
In 2015, she took the choir to the Michigan Federation of Choirs in Lansing, MI.
Michelle served as cantor for five years and substituted as music director in several music parishes around southwest Michigan.
For eight years, the Cross Creek Venture company hired Michelle to sing for their annual Mountain Mingle in Park City, Utah.
Michelle also performed and taught breakout sessions in Naples, Florida, for the annual Storyteller's Creative Arts Conference under the direction of Dr. William Barnett.
Michelle DeFrancesco was a featured vocal soloist with the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band for eight years under the direction of Steven Reed and she continues to be the featured vocal soloist with the St. Joseph Municipal Band under the direction of Dr. Donald Moely.
Michelle completed a vocal pedagogy professional workshop at Boston Conservatory.
She is a certified Vocologist through the National Center for Voice and Speech.
Michelle is a certified Contemporary and Commercial Music vocal pedagogue from Shenandoah University's CCM Institute.
She takes voice lessons from Carla Rae Cook and she's preparing for upcoming professional solo work. Michelle coaches students in jazz, musical theatre, popular, and classical singing techniques while using her Vocology knowledge to help them find their ideal voices.
She gigs for conferences and retreats, and she is also works for Talent Management Group in Salt Lake City as an actress.
