B IOGRAPHY                                                                            CREDENTIALS

Michelle DeFrancesco Bythrow received her Bachelor’s of Music Education in Choral and Vocal music from Indiana University (Bloomington),

a Master's of Sacred Music in vocal performance and conducting from the University of Notre Dame,

and a Master's of Vocal Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ) where she also graduated with distinction.

She is currently working toward a Ph.D. in music education at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. 

 

Professional work:

Her first professional singing job was with the Sacramento Opera Company. She has performed professionally in operas, musicals, jazz and big bands.

 

Michelle led worship in Thailand, China, India, and France, conducted her own compositions with the American Church of Paris, and sang with the Paris Choral Society. 

She was an adjunct music instructor for five years at Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN. Michelle then accepted adjunct vocal teaching positions at The University of Notre Dame where worked in the music department with non-majors, and in Campus ministries with soloists from the  Notre Dame Folk Choir under the direction of Steven Warner.

In 2012, Michelle released her first jazz E.P. called “Blue."

She conducted the Monday Musical choir of St. Joseph, MI for two spring seasons.

In 2015, she took the choir to the Michigan Federation of Choirs in Lansing, MI.

Michelle sang with various choirs at the University of Notre Dame under the direction of Carmen Helena Téllez and student directors. 

She served for three years as cantor at Our Lady of the Lake parish in Edwardsburg, MI and substituted as music director for Our Lady of the Lake and St. Anne's Catholic parishes. 

She sings and plays jazz piano annually at the Mountain Mingle in Park City, Utah. 

Michelle performed and taught breakout sessions at the annual Storyteller's Creative Arts Conference in Naples, Florida for many years.

Michelle DeFrancesco was a featured vocal soloist with the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band for eight years under the direction of Steven Reed and she continues to be the featured vocal soloist with the St. Joseph Municipal Band under the direction of Dr. Donald Moely.

Other credits: 

Michelle completed a vocal pedagogy professional workshop at Boston Conservatory.

She is a certified Vocologist through the National Center for Voice and Speech.

 

Michelle is a certified Contemporary and Commercial Music vocal pedagogue  from Shenandoah University's CCM Institute. 

 

She takes voice lessons from Carla Rae Cook and she's preparing for upcoming professional solo work. Michelle coaches students in jazz, musical theatre, popular, and classical singing techniques while using her Vocology knowledge to help them find their ideal voices.

She gigs for conferences and retreats, and she is also works for Talent Management Group in Salt Lake City as an actress.
